Our last full day in Mackay we planned to leave the reservoir and head further up into the mountains. This ended up being the hottest day, so we were questioning ourselves on this one. But the boys had discovered some really cool riding trails when they were there last year and we wanted to explore. Mackay used to be a mining community, and they have preserved a lot of the leftover sites and turned it into a tour. You can get a map in town and just follow the numbers on this trail system and see the old abandoned mining sites. It's pretty awesome! So despite the heat, we loaded up and headed up the mountain. We camped where the boys camped last year. There were a few tense/scary moments while we were trying to set up our trailer - as soon as we unhitched from the truck, it tried to roll down the hill. Fortunately, it stopped and nothing was really damaged, but Wife had had enough at that point. I stopped suggesting things nicely and basically demanded that we put the trailer in a different spot. We got all settled in and started our hot dog and brat dinners going. After getting food in our bellies, we all headed out on a ride. Brodie took all the non-four wheeling people in the suburban and everyone had fun. After that short ride, Husband wanted to take wife for a ride so we headed up with Grandpa, Brodie and Gabe before it got too dark. We rode some really fun trails and were able to see a pretty awesome sunset. Pretty sure I stole this picture from somebody else, though.
While we were gone, Shaye had decided we needed scones. She was very right and I think we went through almost all 72. When we got back, there was yummy scones to eat, so I had to go get my homemade raspberry jam and contribute. It was a very pleasant way to finish the day!
