Here's what our caterpillar looked like - he was a little bigger than this.

Our chrysalis looked like this one.
This is when the chrysalis turned clear.
Here's our butterfly before it flew away!
This all happened last week, but I haven't had a minute to put it on our blog. The day we got back from camping, our fat little caterpillar made it's chrysalis (cocoon). It stayed in there for a week or so. It emerged as a beautiful butterfly on Husband's birthday. We didn't see it make the chrysalis or come out of it, but B got to see the butterfly fly away. She now says she misses her butterfly. The pictures I took with our camera didn't turn out well because of where the caterpillar decided to form the chrysalis. No matter how much focusing or unfocusing I did, we did not get a clear picture. So I found some pictures online of what the chrysalis looked like, and the caterpillar. The chrysalis turns clear when the butterfly is ready to come out. We could see the butterfly wings inside the chrysalis! Anyway, if you live near some milkweed, this is a fun thing to do with your kids. B loved watching this whole cycle happen. The really fun part is that her preschool class was learning about butterflies last week so she was extra excited!

This looks really fun! We'll have to get one.
Oooo, fun butterfly! Emily wants to do that too. She has been obsessed with butterflies for awhile now and made me buy her a book all about them. She wraps herself in a blanket pretending to be in a chrysalis and then emerges as a butterfly.
You'll have to get another one :) and watch the whole process this time :)
