Camping!

A great picture of B - look close, you can see the chipmunk she just fed right behind her camp chair.

Husband feeding M grapes - she looked a little like a chipmunk herself!

My favorite part of camping - very messy faces and clothes!

Aunt S reading a bedtime story by the campfire.

B didn't actually want to WALK on our hike, so we ended up carrying her most of the time. Good thing it's a ridiculously short "hike"!

It's taken a while for me to post this. We went camping this week. Just one night, but that was enough for our kids! We had yummy dutch oven dinner, s'mores, way too much junk food! B loved that we had tons of chipmunks that were not scared of us in the slightest. Actually, it would have been nice if they'd been a little more afraid...Anyway, Husband's parents and brother came to join us for dinner. It was so much fun. Unfortunately, M likes sleeping in a tent almost as much as B used to. Many of you know (or were there when it happened) that during a ward campout a couple years ago at This is the Place, Brynn decided at 2:00 am that she was done camping. She kept repeating "All done, All done" over and over until she was screaming it and we gave up and went home. And then went back at 7:00 am to collect our stuff. And spent the rest of the day recuperating from no sleep. We haven't tried an overnighter in a tent since. B loved sleeping in the tent this time, but got a little cold and came to sleep with Husband and I (something she really never does.) That woke up M, who then screamed like she was being tortured. Uncle & Aunt were with us and I think we've convinced them that taking babies camping can be WAY fun! Anyway, I got her calmed down for a little while by turning on a DVD for her. Then the DVD player's battery died. And the screaming started again. So we fumbled around for keys, did some car/truck shuffling and Husband took M home at 3:30am. He came back around 8:30 after cleaning up the sourdough starter that spilled all over the truck when he went home. (We'd put all the food in the truck very unsecure-like because we weren't planning on going anywhere and we didn't want the chipmunks getting into everything.) So he brought the bisquick mix back with him in the morning. Not as good as sourdoughs, but still good. We packed up and went home and spent the rest of the day recuperating from no sleep. We seem to have a pattern here... We did make a little stop on the way down the canyon to to the Mill B hike. It's about 100 yards and perfect for little kids. There's a pretty waterfall at the end. B liked it, and at least we got a little hike in. We've decided that we will not sleep with our kids in a tent until they are at least four years old. We'll just have to go camping nearby so I can come home with the little ones at night. We've had enough of coming home in the middle of the night and then going back to collect our stuff in the morning. All in all, though, it was fun!

Oh yes, camping with little kids can be fun. Um, wait, what was the definition of fun again? Just kidding, other than the no sleep part, the camping was a blast.

That's too funny :) Just know you aren't alone in the whole kid thing. It took some of my nieces and nephews a few tries before they started liking it!!
