We decided to take the kids to a baseball game for the 24th of July. We've never really done anything like that, but we thought it'd be great to see the big fireworks. The kids did pretty good watching the game, and when they got bored, it was pretty easy to keep them happy with snacks. They loved cotton candy, and big sister bought a huge bag of kettle corn and happily shared with everyone. Slushees were also a huge hit.
We had a fabulous time. It went a little longer than normal due to a brown out that shut down the big lights. There was a 20 minute delay waiting for the big lights to come back on. Once the game was over, we settled in for the fireworks. Little sister got pretty panicky at this point, because of her experience from last July having the fireworks go rogue and explode on her back. We debated taking her out, but Husband just held her and rocked her. When the fireworks started she really started freaking out, but after just a couple minutes, she calmed down and actually really enjoyed the show. She now says she prefers the big fireworks show. It feels safer to her.
We had such a great time, we might be making this our yearly tradition!
