Updates for my faithful reader

I am currently sitting at my computer when I should be in Sacrament Meeting. Big brother woke up very very early this morning, and needed a serious nap. He finally fell asleep about 20 minutes before we needed to leave for church. We decided it was best to let him sleep. It has been 2 weeks since we took away the binky from big brother. It's still not going well. He is doing just fine without it, except for the fact that he can't fall asleep. He has always fought the whole sleep thing, but I didn't realize before how much of that problem the binky solved. He will scream for 3 hours. Longer, I'm sure, if I would let him keep going. We've resorted to a portable dvd player in his room and he eventually falls asleep. Naps are ancient history. To sum up: he's tired. All the time. He wakes up early, falls asleep late. I really thought that 2 weeks without the binky and he would figure it out. I am very seriously considering giving it up until he can communicate better and be an active participant in getting rid of it. Which habit is worse? A binky, screaming for hours, or having a tv in his room all night? It's so sad to see him yawning all day long. The boy needs more sleep than he's getting and quite frankly, so does mama. *sigh*

We took little brother and little sister to the doctor this week. Little sister got to get her kindergarten shots. She kept telling me all day that she was going to be brave, and she really was. She didn't cry at all until they stuck the first needle in. Then she lost all her brave resolve. Poor baby needed 4 shots. But she didn't throw a fit, just cried. I'd say that's pretty brave! She calmed right down afterward and really appreciated the ice cream trip afterward. Her stats:
weight - 35lb. (16 %)
height - 40.5 inches (12%)
She's still our petite little girl! Funny, though. We have a wall in the pantry where we mark their height on their birthdays and she is taller than Big sister was on her 5th birthday. The doctor was impressed with her counting abilities and remarked that he would never have been able to guess she had ever had trouble with communication. He declared her ready for kindergarten and she is so excited!

Speaking of small children, here are little brothers stats:
weight - 17 lb. 2.5oz (9%)
height - 26" (0.2%)
head - 18" (68%)
So he's a short lightweight with a big head. Yes, that height percentile is 0.2. He is taller than 2 out of 1,000 other kids. His weight gain actually looks pretty good on the curve, but the doctor is a little concerned about the height thing. He only grew half an inch since the last appointment. We may address that one at his 12 month appointment. We'll see! He is getting very very close to walking! He has taken a step or 2, but sits down when he realizes what he's done.

Big sister is wearing contacts and loving it! It's taking her some getting used to as far as getting them in and out, but she's adapting quickly and loves wearing them. It's making ballet so much easier for her. The doctor said that her astigmatism is pretty bad, and it's a good thing she's getting used to them now because it can be harder for teens and adults to adjust to the type of contacts she has to wear. Yay for contacts!

The kids wanted me to take a picture - too cute!

Cute boys!

Little brother and baby cousin!

Big brother was thrilled about dyeing Easter eggs! (Or he was really tired...)

The girls had a little more fun.

Do whats best for your family! A tired mama makes it hard on everyone. And personally I think the binky is a better choice than a dvd player or screaming. No that my opionion matters, just a perspective. We gave Annikas back when she started sucking her thumb. Good luck with your decision.
