A fun weekend

We had a little surprise money come our way a couple weeks ago, so Husband and I decided it was time to invest in a junior size four-wheeler for the kids to learn on.  He found a good one that wasn't too horribly expensive.  We had the girls both take the safety course to get their license to drive the four-wheeler this week.  We loaded up and went with my parents to Little Sahara this weekend to try it out.  It was windy and rainy, but we had enough clear skies to have some fun and being together as a family is always a good thing.  

 Little brother loved the helmet.  His head is the same size as the girls.  So the inside fit him, but the outside made him look a little ridiculous.  Funny boy.  He never wanted to take the helmet off and was pretty sure that he should be the only one allowed to wear it.  If you ask him, he'll tell you it's his helmet.  He can't legally drive the four-wheeler on public lands until he's 8, and he is not happy about that.  He keeps saying that next time he's going to drive it.  Oh, this boy sure rules the roost!

 Little sister.  She is smiling in this picture!  Learning to drive was hard at first, but the 2nd time she tried went much smoother and she had lots of fun. 

 Big brother waiting for me to give him his snack.  This boy.  He's almost always hungry.  We had pancakes and bacon Saturday morning.  Little brother had 1, both the girls had 2, and big brother had 5.  And then wanted a snack about an hour later.  Grandpa commented that he already eats like a teenage boy, what on earth are we going to do when he is one??  I need a bigger fridge and a full time job to pay for the groceries! 

 Big sister loved playing word games with Grandma on her iPad.  Since it was windy, the kids didn't want to be outside unless they were four-wheeling.  With the helmet and goggles, the wind and sand didn't bug them so much.  Without them, lots of sand got into little eyes.  So we let them do more electronics than they normally would. 

 Watching a show before bed Friday night.  Big brother was actually terrified of sleeping up there.  He's slept up there before, but apparently he doesn't remember.  So Husband ended up climbing up there and sleeping in his spot, while big brother came down and slept by me.  The sacrifices we make for these kids and a peaceful(ish) night's sleep.

Saturday morning we woke to beautiful blue skies.  We made the most of it and did as much riding as we could in the morning, since the forecast was calling for rain later.

 Big brother was pretty happy to play outside Saturday morning.  It was not quite so windy, and he kept his sunglasses on to shield his eyes.  He loved playing with the tractors. 

 Daddy and big brother, Grandpa and little brother out cruising the campground.  Big brother fit into an adult Medium sized helmet.  So we'll be investing in a new one for him!

We were thinking we'd do lunch and then pack up, but the clouds rolled in a bit faster than we expected.  Husband and Grandpa came back from their quick ride and pointed out how close those clouds were getting, and they were definitely rain clouds.  So we rushed around getting everything packed up and loaded.  We didn't quite beat the rain, but most of the stuff was done by the time the heavens opened.  Big sister was a big help getting everything packed.  I love that she's at the age where she can really be helpful and that (most of the time) she's pretty willing to help, too.  It was a fun weekend.  Little sister and big sister liked listening to the 5th Harry Potter book as we drove, little brother liked sleeping, and as usual big brother was just content.  Sure love these kiddos!
