Let's discuss Big Sister, the hero...

The girls got to have a girls-only sleepover at Husband's mom's house on Friday night.  They had a blast!  When I told all the kids to get into the car so we could take the girls over, little brother was determined not to be left out.  He ran to his room and packed his Mickey Mouse backpack with 2 1/2 pairs of shoes and one pair of underwear.  (He is not potty trained.)  He then took his pack out to the car and declared himself ready to go to Grandma's.  Cutie.  The boys did have fun having a date night with mommy - snowcones and pizza, you can't go wrong!  Anyway.  The next day, we went to pick up the girls and Grandma started talking about Big sister saving the girl that worked at the snow cone shack.  This is a story we hadn't heard.  Apparently, Big sister and her best friend wanted snow cones, so they walked over to the snow cone shack that's just around the corner from us.  They ordered their giant snow cones, but as they finished ordering the girl working there collapsed.  This would freak out most 11 and 10-year-olds, right?  Not these girls!  Big sister's friend whipped out her phone and dialed 911, gave them the info and the ambulance was dispatched.  They wanted to help more, so (this is my favorite part) big sister took the bobby pin out of her hair and picked the lock on the shack.  They got ice from the machine and put it on the girls face.  By the time the ambulance arrived, they had helped the girl come to a little bit.  My question is this - how in the heck does she know how to pick a lock?  I asked her if this was like the bathroom locks at home, which she knows how to open pretty easily.  Nope, she picked a real lock.  Wow.  These are not skills I taught her, perhaps I should investigate where the skills came from!  I asked best friend's parents today if they knew about this, and they hadn't been told, either.  Funny girls.  I'm betting this is one of the times that they came home, grabbed their bikes, and headed to the grocery store to get a treat instead.  Forgetting all about the snow cone shack adventure because they were still on their quest for something sweet.  Anyway.  Hurrah for our brave big sister!
