I keep meaning to write this one down. Some time in July we got a babysitter for the boy and took the girls to see Toy Story 3. Little sister is obsessed with all things Toy Story. She LOVES Toy Story 2 and would watch it 5 times a day if we would let her. So we thought she would enjoy seeing the new movie. She had never been to a movie theater before, and the whole experience was very exciting. We got them popcorn and drinks and a little piece of candy. They were loving it. Little sister thought the previews were cool. THEN...the movie started. You've never seen a more excited 3 year old! She kept elbowing Husband and shouting "DADDY! LOOK! IT'S BUZZ LIGHTYEAR! IT'S JESSIE! IT'S WOODY! IT'S BULLSEYE!" She was beyond thrilled. She laughed harder and louder than anybody else in the theater. It was clear that this was the ultimate experience for her. It was seriously so stinking cute to see how excited she was for every scene. Until...
Towards the end of the movie, the characters end up at the dump, and them somehow in the incinerator. As it becomes clear there is no escape from the massive flame, the characters accept their fate and simply hold hands. Little sister Lost. It. She was an inconsolable mess of tears. The poor thing was sitting there watching her best friends DIE! Whose brilliant idea was THAT? She was sobbing uncontrollably. Daddy tried his best to hold her on his lap and comfort her and assure her that her friends would be just fine, but she was completely traumatized. Of course, the characters manage to escape and there is a happy ending. But the happy ending may as well not have happened. Little sister was still whimpering as we left. If you asked her how she liked Toy Story 3, she would bury her face in Daddy's chest and whimper some more. She didn't even want to talk about it. We let her watch Toy Story 2 that afternoon and she seemed relieved that her favorite characters were okay. We were really thinking that we would buy the movie, but I think we'll have to rent it once when it comes on video and see if she's still traumatized by that scene before we really buy it. Poor baby!

My kids were also unimpressed with that scene. It took a few days before we could move on. At least it had a happy ending. Also, funny story here: When we were at Disneyland, all Alice wanted was a Lotso Love Bear. I don't think she knew he was the bad guy. And the one they sell isn't nice and clean either, he's pretty roughed up. Who wants a roughed up brand new doll?
