Our Summer schedule has been crazy! Husband has worked extra shifts or traded shifts so that he can take vacation time later in the summer and also go to scout camp for a week. We had a 2 day stretch where he didn't work, so we headed for the hills. We stayed close, since experience has taught us that our kids will probably need to go home to their own bed at some point. We headed out after Little Sister was done with preschool for the day and set up camp. We invited all the grandparents up and we had a really yummy dutch oven dinner - ribs, potatoes, and peach cobbler. We roasted marshmallows, made s'mores, did all that camping stuff. Big sister was enamored with the bathroom and went at least a dozen times before bed. The kids were loving it! When we tried to put little brother to bed, though, he wasn't having it. He laughed at us for a little while, then started full-on crying. He'd been running a fever and teething, so wife took him home to sleep and spare the rest of the campground a 2am breakdown. Which was good, because that is exactly what happened. He woke up at 2am and it took a long time to calm him down, even with a microwave to speedily warm up his bottle. He finally fell asleep while watching a Baby Einstein (something we didn't have at the campground!) Wife woke up early to come back up the canyon and make breakfast. Sourdough pancakes (of course) and bacon. Yum. Husband and the girls slept relatively well. Little sister got scared as soon as the lantern got turned off and ended up cuddling with daddy all night long. Big sister fell off her air mattress at one point, but got back in bed. When it started getting cold, though, big sister didn't have the body mass to keep herself warm. Husband woke up to see her standing next to his sleeping bag, shivering. So she climbed in with Daddy and that's how wife found them - all cuddled and sleeping soundly. So sweet. After breakfast, we broke camp and headed up to Silver Lake and walked around. The kids really enjoyed that. Then we continued up the canyon and down into Park City. After stopping at Burger King for lunch, we finally headed home. It was exhausting, and it would be nice if we could go for more than one night. Perhaps when the kids are ALL old enough to sleep through the night in a tent! Big sister kept saying how nice it was to "get away from it all." Her words, not mine! All in all, it was a successful camping trip!

He must be happy 'cuz he got his way - mommy took him home for the night!

Mommy flipping pancakes. In the background, you'll notice Daddy's Father's Day gift. We got him a shell for his truck. It was very nice to be able to just throw things back there and not worry about it all blowing out or trying to tie it all down with a tarp!
